Iftar with Visually Impaired Students in Somalia

During the Ramadan program in Mogadishu, the Albasir School for the visually impaired was visited, learning materials were delivered to the students and an iftar was held for about 170 people.
Following our activities in Uganda, the International Union of Braille Quran Services (IBQS) organized a Ramadan program in Somalia. Within the scope of the visit, an iftar was held in Mogadishu with the students, teachers and graduates of the city's school for the visually impaired.
During the program, Albasir School, directed by IBQS Board Member Abikar Hussein, was visited. The conditions of the school were observed on site, and there was an opportunity to meet and talk with students and teachers. Tablets, braille styluses, canes and other learning materials were delivered to the visually impaired students. Small treats such as Turkish delight and coffee also brought the students great joy.
The school, which continues its work with very limited means, educates 56 students aged between 10 and 25, including several high school and university students.
As part of the visit, a large iftar gathering was organized with approximately 170 participants, including representatives of governmental institutions and civil society organizations. The program strengthened the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity among participants from different institutions and countries.
We hope that these activities, made possible by the support of our donors and volunteers, will continue to contribute to the education of visually impaired people and to strengthen international solidarity.
